Proud Parents

Imagine a lifetime of hard work, supporting and raising your children, sending them to college in the hope that they will find a good job and buy a nice house. Then, one of your children moves to New York and you go to visit thinking, maybe he's finally made it and is successful in the big city. You get there and, after the 2 second tour of the 250 square foot apartment, the first question he asks you is: "So, which air mattress do you want?"

If you haven't guessed it, my parents were in NYC this past week visiting us. They arrived on Wednesday and headed back to Minnesota today. We had a great time together despite the not-quite-five-star accommodations.

In exchange for cozy sleeping quarters, my mom and dad bought us tickets to a Broadway play - God of Carnage. Lucky for us, the cast included Jeff Daniels (from Dumb and Dumber), Dylan Baker (from Spiderman) and Lucy Liu (from a lot of stuff - like Charlie's Angels). That's right - celebrity sightings #6, 7, and 8 thanks to Dean and Gail. The play was hilarious!

As you can see, the weather was cool enough that we needed our coats. In later posts you will see the extreme swing in temperatures, which resulted in us either shivering or sweating profusely through the night.

After the play, we stopped at Junior's in Midtown for some cheesecake. My parents had been to Junior's on their last trip to NYC and introduced us to this great find. Its proximity to Times Square made us wonder whether it would be a tourist trap, but it definitely lived up to the hype. Very happy with this slice of Devil's Food Cheesecake.

We plan to post more about this trip in the near future. Overall we had a great time with my parents and were so happy that they made the trip to visit!
